SO today Jane and I traveled over to Rye to check out the infamous scallop festival they have every year. I kind of thought it was going to be an actual festival (outdoor bands, parade, confetti, beads, candy, ballooons, elephants, etc.) but it wasn't. At all. They had some signs up, but they just talked about how you could see a cooking demonstration in this restaurant, or how in another restaurant they had a scallop dish on sale. The English really need to get their marketing together, cuz I wasn't digging it at all.
So, instead of wandering through some smelly fish stalls like I thought we would be doing, we kind of explored the town instead. Rye is actually a sweet little town, it was definately a nice place to visit on a day trip. Plus there were little British children everywhere...is it just me or are they the cutest kids EVER?
After our excursion throughout Rye we stopped and ate at the Ships Inn, which is where we were able to (kind of) celebrate the scallop festival is eating a DELICIOUS dish of it. Actually, Jane ordered the dish, I ordered a Moroccan dish with chickpeas and pistacio couscous. But still, I did eat some scallops.

Thanks for the post Lauren. Even if the festival wasn't much of a festival a day trip is usually a good time.
